Activists protest vendor at Farmers’ Market

Protesters carrying signs pass the Schooner Creek Farm stall at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market, Saturday, June 15, 2019 in Bloomington, Ind. Last week, and this week, information was passed out urging customers not to buy food from the farm. Activists are alleging the farm’s owners have ties to a hate group, the farm owners say the information being disseminated isn’t true. In the June 7, 2019 issue of the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market newsletter was the following statement, “As a government entity, the City of Bloomington also must abide by the constitutional protections of the First Amendment, which prohibits governmental discrimination based on a person’s beliefs.” The Farmers’ Market Advisory Council will meet Monday, June 17, 2019 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the City of Bloomington Council Chambers. The matter will be an issue on the agenda, and the public is invited to the meeting. The activists allegations are summarized in an online petition:
