One suspect arrested, another sought, after vandalism of church

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has made one arrest of a suspect, and are looking for another in connection to the vandalism of Old Dutch Church near Ellettsville on Labor Day. Photos of the suspects taken by a security camera were posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, and they are asking for help from the public.

Three sides of the church, and a propane tank, were covered in graffiti with racist, anti-semitic, satanic, and offensive messages. Photos of the vandalized church circulated widely on Social media Tuesday, and Wednesday.

From the MCSO’s Facebook page:

“***UPDATE***

Both subjects have been identified and one is in custody as of an hour ago. Thank you to the public for all your tips and info!

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the help of the public in identifying the two subjects in the photos. The two are alleged to have vandalized/graffitied the exterior to a local church causing extensive damage. This occurred in the evening hours on 09/02/19. If you have any information leading to the identity of these individuals, please contact Deputy Pittman at 812-349-2780. You do not have to disclose your identity when leaving information and the smallest tip could help!”

The Bloomingtonian made these two photos today at the church, and show the extensiveness of the damage.
The front door of the church was covered a satanic message, which has been partially removed.
