GM strike goes into third day

Workers from United Auto Workers Local 440 picket outside the General Motors Bedford Powertrain factory, where parts are molded from molten metal, as the sun sets on day three of a nationwide worker strike against GM, Wednesday, September 18, 2019 in Bedford, Ind. The workers walked off the job at midnight on September 16th after their contract ran out, and are asking for better pay, affordable healthcare, that temp workers be made permanent, that jobs not be sent overseas, and that some factories, like the one in Lordtown, Ohio, be reopened. More than 700 workers at the Bedford, Indiana, factory are among the 49,000 workers nationally that are on strike. General Motors canceled health insurance for the striking workers Tuesday, and the union will have to provide cobra coverage. Negotiations are continuing in Detroit, Michigan, between the UAW, and GM. (Photo by Jeremy Hogan/The Bloomingtonian)
