Friday night pursuit of motorcycle terminated for safety reasons

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office terminated the pursuit of a sport bike due to the concern for the safety of bystanders, Friday, October 18, 2019 west of Bloomington according to MCSO Capt, Ryan Davis.

Scanner traffic Friday night indicated a male driving a black sport bike, wearing a black helmet, had struck a vehicle in Martinsville, and was being pursued by members of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office on I-69 South towards the Morgan and Monroe County line, where the pursuit was terminated.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Kyle Seward located the motorcycle Friday in the area of I-69 and 2nd Street that matched the description, according to MCSO Capt. Davis. Davis said while attempting to stop the sport bike for a speeding violation, the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began.

“Deputy Seward was relaying information including traffic conditions to dispatch. When it was discovered traffic was heavy on the bypass, the on duty supervisor terminated the vehicle pursuit due to concern for the safety of bystanders,” said Davis.

Davis said the suspect information is unknown at this time, and there is no dash cam footage of the chase.

The Bloomingtonian has made a video file with the sound from the scanner traffic, without images, and has put it in the order dispatched.
