Monroe County’s annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place at the Monroe County Courthouse starting at 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2019, according to Commander Richard E. Dunbar of the American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18 in Bloomington.

Dunbar said the event will include a POW MIA ceremony, a reading of the names of Monroe County veterans who have passed away since last year, the Monroe County Honor Guard honoring veterans with a 21 gun salute, and the playing of taps. Various service organizations will place wreaths during the ceremony.

Dunbar said there will be special seating for any World War II veterans.

After the ceremony, the Legion will serve a free lunch from noon to 2 p.m. at the local post located at 1800 W. Third Street. Dunbar said the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 604 will also serve a free lunch starting at 11 a.m. The VFW is located at 2404 W Industrial Park Drive in Bloomington.

Weather permitting, Dunbar said the flag retirement ceremony will take place outside the Legion post starting at 1:15 p.m.
