A man and his son rescued a woman from a burning apartment
Wednesday afternoon in the 1100 block of West Main Street in Ellettsville,
Mark Brewster, of Spencer, Ind., said he was driving along
Ind. State Rd. 46 in Ellettsville with his son Seth Brewster, a high school
student, when they noticed smoke and pulled into the parking lot of an
apartment building. Brewster and his son then saw a woman in the back of the
structure yelling, “help, help,” and managed to pull her from the burning
structure to safety, said Brewster. Brewster said the fire was really hot, but
he and his son were uninjured.
Ellettsville Fire Chief Mike Cornman said a woman was
transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries, but had no further
information about her condition. Cornman said there was a major fire in one
unit of the apartment structure, and a minor fire in another. Cornman credited
the Brewsters with rescuing the woman from the fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to the structure fire around
2:56 p.m., and scanner traffic indicated a man may have been entrapped in the structure,
but Cornman said there was only one person in the building, the woman rescued.
Units from Bean Blossom Township, Ellettsville Fire
Department, Van Buren Township Fire Department, the Ellettsville Police, and IU
Health Bloomington, were among those that responded to the fire.
