IU Graduate Students March Against Mandatory Fees

Indiana University graduate students, and supporters march from Woodburn Clocktower to the Wells Library to deliver a petition to end fees to Vice Provost David Dalek, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in Bloomington, Ind. The Indiana Graduate Workers Union is advocating that IU’s administration end fees, and had the following statement on its website: “We demand an end to mandatory fees and the international student fee for graduate workers at Indiana University Bloomington. Graduate student labor is essential to the functioning of the university. We teach more than 30% of classes, grade papers, and work in laboratories and studios. And yet, from stipends that already fail to cover living expenses, we are expected to pay over $1,000 in fees back to the university. As employees of the university we should not have to pay to work. The money that the university gets from us in fees represents a tiny sliver of its overall budget, while it represents a month’s pay for us.” More information can be found at: https://www.indianagradworkers.org/ (Photo by Jeremy Hogan/The Bloomingtonian)
