Police responded to Bloomington High School North around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, after a report of a suspicious post on social media.
A student made a screen grab from Snapchat showing an unknown person with a BB pistol, and a caption saying they were “about to shoot up North,” and reported to school staff according to the police. BHSN is handling the incident internally, according to the BPD. determined the post was not referring to BHSN. The police said it, “appears that the individual who made the original post was not referring to BHSN.”
The following message was sent to parents Wednesday:
“”We are reaching out today to inform you that a safety related post was brought to our attention regarding a “north” with no reference to North High School, Bloomington, or Indiana.
Although North High School was not mentioned, a thorough investigation by our Administrators, resource and security officers along with the Bloomington Police Department was conducted. We have not been able to link this post to Bloomington High School North in any way.
School safety is everyone’s responsibility, and our faculty frequently reiterates to students that all concerns should be reported to an adult for review by our team. The mantra, “If you see (or hear) something, say something” succinctly captures that message. North’s administrative team
greatly appreciates those students, teachers, and parents who have reached out to do just that with this post.
Thanks for your attention to this message and all that you do to support your child’s education.
Principal Brittain-Watts””
Correction: After The Bloomingtonian double checked with the police, the police said the report did not indicate whether the originator of the suspicious image was a student.
All charges are mere allegations unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
