State releases their latest statistics on COVID-19 in Indiana; state death count doubles to 2

According to the Indiana State Department of Health, Monroe County still has not had its first confirmed case of COVID-19/Coronavirus. Statistics on the ISDH website are updated daily at 10 a.m.  

The number of deaths in Indiana from the virus have also jumped to 2 according to the ISDH. The deaths from the virus are one each in Marion and Johnson counties. While cases of the disease in the statewide jumped to 30, with 159 people tested.

In a press release from the Monroe County Health Department Monday local officials said, “Although Monroe County has not yet had a confirmed case, the possibility is high.”

In an earlier story the Monroe County Health Department also said, “We understand that there is concern about the limited ability to test for the coronavirus at the Indiana State Department of Health Laboratory. Unfortunately, because of short supplies, tests have been triaged for those at highest risk. We are hopeful this situation will be resolved soon and testing will become more readily available. In the meantime, we should focus on what we all can do to protect ourselves and others from getting ill, such as using the everyday preventative measures to reduce the transmission of illness.”
