Police responded to multiple calls about gun shots being fired, and eventually arrested two men for criminal recklessness with a firearm, Friday in Bloomington, according to BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo.
Just after 9 a.m. Friday, April 10 police received several calls from multiple callers hearing gunshots being fired in the area of the 500 block of S. Basswood Drive, in Bloomington, according to the police.
A maintenance man told the police he’d heard the shots, then witnessed two black men run into an apartment in the 504 building of Basswood Drive, according to the police. When officers arrived they heard several people moving around inside the apartment, and knocked on the door. A man told the police there were firearms inside the apartment, so police called the occupants out of the apartment, and detained them, according to the BPD. An occupant of the apartment told the police that some men from Ft. Wayne had brought the weapons with them the previous evening, and officers determined two men took the firearms, which were a Draco AK-47 pistol, and Glock 9mm handgun, to an area along the railroad tracks near the apartment building, and fired both several times. The police said they found 7.62×39, and 9mm casings along the tracks.
The police confiscated both firearms, which they found hidden under a beanbag chair in a bedroom of the apartment, and arrested a 21-year-old man from Ft. Wayne, and a 20-year-old man from Bloomington.
This is not the first recent incident in Bloomington where an AK-47 pistol was fired in the city. On January 6, 2020 Bloomington Police arrested a 22-year-old man who fired an AK-47 pistol from the window of an apartment in the 3200 block of E. Longview Ave.
