Man found dead Wednesday after suspected overdose

Police found a man who had died of a suspected overdose outdoors near a business Wednesday, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

While operating a weed trimmer, a business owner found a man crouched behind a stack of concrete blocks before 10:32 a.m., May 13, 2020 in the 1900 block of W. Arlington Road, said the police. The business owner believed the man was hiding, but the man did not respond. The business owner called 911, and when police officers arrived, they discovered the man was stiff, and cold, and they called the Monroe County Coroner.

The man, who had been experiencing homelessness, possessed several items of drug paraphernalia in his backpack. Police noted there were no signs of struggle, or assault.

Thursday, investigators attended an autopsy at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, and the cause of death is preliminarily determined to be “pharmacologic intoxication” but toxicology results are pending, according to the BPD.
