Saturday evening on the first night since the stay-at-home order was lifted by the Monroe County Health Department, The Bloomingtonian made some images of downtown.
A line of people, who looked to be under 30, were standing in line outside Brothers on North Walnut, and a doorman was regulating the size of the crowd being allowed into the restaurant. Across the street at the new Yogi’s Bar & Grill at 7th and N. Walnut, diners filled the tables outside the restaurant.
Across the street from the Princess Theater were the words projected onto a wall, Stay the F*** Home. Not far away, at Kirkwood and Walnut, a person in a group of young men exclaimed, “It’s a Hoax,” to a person wearing a mask.
Around the downtown area were several house parties, and at one house, the entire front porch was filled with at least 10-15 partiers. Not far away, at another house party, a group of young woman sat on the porch of a home with the lawn littered with empty beverage cups.
Down on Kirkwood, the Five Guys was already closed, and of several young people sat at a table outside, while down the street the lights of Kilroy’s on Kirkwood were still darkened.
The Uptown Cafe appeared mostly empty while a bartender in a mask was cleaning the bar.
Monroe County is now in phase II of the governor’s plan to reopen the state completely.
