Attempted armed robbery

Police responded to apartments in the 300 block of E. SR 45/46 bypass Sunday morning around 3 a.m. after a man with a handgun tried to rob three people sitting on the tailgate of a truck in the parking lot, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

According to police, a young black male pointed a 9mm hand gun at a 21-year-old male, 20 year-old-female, and a 20-year-old male, and demanded their money, but when they said they had none he ran west across the parking lot. While he was running the gunman fired the handgun, and police later found a casing in the parking lot.

It isn’t know what direction the gun was pointed when it was fire, but police were unable to find any damage.

The case is still active.

Baseball bat used in assault

The Bloomington Police Department were called to the 400 block of E. Southern Drive, Sunday night around 10 p.m., after a 59-year-old man was struck in the head six times with a baseball bat, and rendered unconscious.

The man regained consciousness, but was confused about what happened, after officers had found him unconscious lying on a sidewalk, and bleeding from his head. Police said the man was extremely intoxicated, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police interviewed a witness who said they saw the two men fighting, and observed a 32-year-old male suspect strike the older man in the head six times with the bat.
