The Bloomington Police Department has arrested an 18-year-old Brownsburg man for attempted murder after finding a woman with knife wounds in the 1000 Block of W. 11th Street Wednesday night.

Police responded to the 1000 Block of W. 11th Street at around 8:42 p.m. Wednesday, August 5th for a welfare check on a woman found lying on the sidewalk covered in blood, according to BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

“The woman had been located by a passerby on the sidewalk suffering from multiple knife wounds, including a deep cut to her throat, a deep cut to her abdomen, and several knife wounds to her head,” said Pedigo.

The 18-year-old victim was rushed to IU Health Bloomington where it was determined her injuries required emergency surgery, according to Pedigo.

Police spoke to the victim before her surgery and she named Kiandre Owens, 18, as her attacker. As the police were at the hospital investigating, Owens checked himself into the same hospital around 11 p.m., for treatment of a cut to his hand.

Police took the suspect into custody, and after interviewing him at the Police Department, transported him to the jail for charges of Attempted Murder, a level 1 felony.

The case remains under investigation.
