Thieves remove catalytic converters from vehicles at dealership

Three catalytic converters were stolen, and two others damaged, at a car dealership in the 3300 block of E. Third Street over the weekend, according to BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The General Manager of the Royal VW and Nissan dealership on Bloomington’s Eastside reported to police that employees discovered converters missing from a Ford F150, Range Rover, and a Volkswagen Atlas Monday morning. The parts were removed from the vehicles sometime between 6 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. Monday morning.

An attempt was made to steal converters off another Volkswagen Atlas, and a VW Atlas Crossport as well, but the parts were only damaged in the process.

The dealership estimates the stolen and damaged parts would cost 5,000-dollars to replace, according to the police.
