The Bloomington Fire Department responded to a fire in a 14,000 square foot warehouse in the 1000 block of W. Allen near Patterson early Thursday morning. The building is next to Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.
When firefighters were dispatched around 4 a.m. the fire had already burned through the roof said Bloomington Fire Chief Jason Moore. A glow from the fire could be seen from Patterson and W. Third Street as The Bloomingtonian drove to the scene. The building was fully engulfed with flames, and smoke and embers rose into the sky.
Moore said the fire would be under investigation, and later this morning a walkthrough would take place at the building to make sure nobody was inside when the fire started. Moore said the building’s structure was unstable due to damage from the fire.
Firefighters continued to work into the morning to extinguish the fire that destroyed the building.
The building is listed as a 14,000 square foot warehouse and storage building constructed in 1978 and sits on 4.53 acres of land according to RealtyTrac.com. The building most recently housed the Space Saver Storage business, however, there is also a mini-storage building on the same land, which did not burn.
