Three more IU Greek organizations receive cease and desist orders

By Mary Claire Molloy

Three more IU Greek organizations received cease and desist orders September 30, according to the university’s website

The organizations are Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Lambda Sigma Upsilon fraternity and Omega Phi Beta sorority.

Incidents involving organizations are being investigated and the cease and desist is for violating public and health regulations said IU spokesperson Chuck Carney. Carney confirmed that Sigma Phi Epsilon, Lambda Sigma Upsilon, and Omega Phi Beta were given cease and desist orders effective October 30.

Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity was the first organization to receive a cease and desist order on September 17, after the Monroe County Health Department found the house “instituted, permitted, or maintained conditions which may transmit the spread of COVID-19” and provided false information to law enforcement, according to a press release. Further investigation, the department wrote, revealed a pattern of behavior from the chapter putting the greater community at risk.
