01292021- Bloomington, Indiana USA: Police tape secures an apartment building in the 500 block of S. Basswood Drive Friday. There was a fire at the apartment building around 9:37 p.m. Thursday night. WTHR is reporting a woman was found dead inside, but The Bloomingtonian has reached out to the Bloomington Fire Department and not received a reply. Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields confirmed there is a fire investigation in the county, but did not confirm the location. Shields said the cause and manner of the woman’s death will be determined during a 1 p.m. autopsy in Terre Haute, and then after the family is notified, more information will be released to the public.

Police continue to investigate homicide

The Bloomington Police Department is still actively investigating the death of a woman last Thursday, which was ruled a homicide, said Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo during Tuesday’s daily press briefing.

Pedigo released the following statement Monday to the media, and is asking anybody with information to contact the Bloomington Police Department:

“At this time, I can confirm that there is an active homicide investigation underway regarding the death of 32 year-old Teresa Michael in an apartment in the 500 block of S Basswood Drive on January 28th, 2021. Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields announced earlier today that the preliminary cause of death has been ruled “manual strangulation” and the manner of death is homicide.”
