Police arrest Evansville man stealing catalytic converters

Police caught a 25-year-old Evansville man as he was stealing catalytic converters from vehicles at the Budget Rent a Car in the 900 block of S. Walnut Street Saturday, according to Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The Evansville Police Department contacted the BPD and requested help locating a man driving a 1999 red Chevy Blazer who was believed to be in Bloomington to steal catalytic converters. The BPD located a vehicle at the Budget Rent a Car matching the description and noticed a box truck with a door open.

Two catalytic converters which had been cut from a vehicle were inside the box truck. Police found a red Milwaukee saw at the scene and the man an extra blade in his pocket. After the man was taken into custody, while his car was being inventoried before being towed, a pawn shop receipt for the saw was found in the Blazer.

The man is facing two charges of theft of vehicle parts or accessories, which are level 6 felonies; and two A misdemeanors for criminal mischief after damaging the vehicles.
