The Bloomington Fire Department extinguished a fire in a vacant apartment building Thursday.

When fire fighters arrived just after 8:36 a.m. black smoke was pouring out of the building in the 2600 block of N. Walnut Street. Firefighters could see visible flames, according to Battalion Chief Travis Drescher, and they began to attack the fire from the first floor.

Soon the fire department had knocked down the fire. However, one firefighter was transported to a local hospital. No other information was released about the firefighter.

The Bloomington Police Department shut down both lanes of traffic near the fire.
