During a 9-hour meeting the Bloomington City Council voted against ordinance 2106, which would have allowed members of the community experiencing homelessness to sleep over night in public parks. Currently it’s against the law to sleep in public parks from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The ordinance failed on a 4-4 vote.
Voting in favor of the ordinance were Steve Volan, Kate Rosenbarger, Matt Flaherty, and Isabel Piedmont-Smith. Those voting against were Ron Smith, Susan Sandberg, Sue Sgambelluri, and Dave Rollo.
Council member Jim Sims was not at the meeting since he had a family emergency.
