The following press release was sent from the Monroe Fire Protection District to The Bloomingtonian:

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

South Cory Lane Fire

Monroe County, Indiana, March 8, 2021 – Monroe Fire Protection District was called to the 700 block of S Cory Lane, in Shady Acres Trailer Park, a little before 1am this morning for a structure fire.

Fire units arrived to find fire and smoke coming from the left side of the home.  The homeowner confirmed that everyone made it out of the house, but animals were still possibly inside.  Firefighters deployed a hose line to the side of the house and was able to knock down a large portion of the fire as additional units were still responding to the scene.  Once additional units were on scene firefighters transitioned into the interior of the home and were able to stop the fire from spreading deeper into the structure.  Firefighters searched for the animals still inside the home, but unfortunately the animals did not make it.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Monroe Fire District was assisted on the scene by IU Health Ambulance Service, Monroe County Sheriff Office, and Duke Energy.
