Man found deceased after apparent suicide at camp near Switchyard Park

A man was found deceased Sunday after an apparent suicide at the tent camp under the B-Line trail bridge at Grimes and Morton near Switchyard Park, according to Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The Bloomington Police Department responded to the camp around 6:03 a.m. after being waved down by a female, said Pedigo. The officer was told that a man in a tent was believed to be deceased.

The police officer called an ambulance and the fire department and then went to check the condition of the man. The officer found a man inside a tent with a cord around his neck. The cord was secured to a bridge support and run down inside the tent, said Pedigo.

The Monroe County Coroner was called to the scene, and the man was declared deceased.

A group of unhoused community members have been living in tents at the location under the bridge since camping is not allowed in city parks, which close at 11 p.m. each night.
