Press release: Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrests Cadiz, Indiana police officer for OWI

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Cadiz, Indiana police officer on I-69 for an OWI, according to a press release sent to The Bloomingtonian Monday. 

Press release follows: 

“MCSO Deputies arrest Police Officer for OWI and Resisting Law Enforcement

On Monday, August 16th, 2021 at approximately 2:02 AM Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
Deputies were dispatched to an attempt to locate on a Dodge Charger southbound on
Interstate 69 that was reported to be speeding and all over the roadway. Deputies located the
vehicle and conducted a traffic stop just south of the Kinser Pike overpass.  

The driver was identified as Brian Joseph Hedger, a thirty-eight year old male who
resides in Plainfield, Indiana. Deputies observed that the Dodge Charger being driven by Mr.
Hedger was an unmarked police vehicle. Mr. Hedger informed MCSO Deputies that he was a
police officer with the Cadiz (Indiana) Police Department and provided credentials. MCSO
Deputies quickly began an operating while intoxicated investigation.  

A search warrant to draw Mr. Hedger’s blood was obtained and samples were drawn at
IU Health Bloomington Hospital. The toxicology results are pending.  

Mr. Hedger was remanded to the custody of the Monroe County Correctional Center for
the charges of:

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a previous conviction, as a Level 6 Felony 


Resisting law enforcement, as a Class A Misdemeanor”
