Man followed and threatened with knife on B-Line Wednesday

A man was threatened by a knife-wielding man along the B-Line trail near the Convention Center Wednesday morning, according to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The 33-year-old man told police he was being followed by an unknown man with a knife after trying to walk through a group of men a few minutes before 12:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim said he lives nearby and had approached a group of men sitting on some steps and asked them to move so he could walk through, but they refused. There was then a verbal confrontation. He walked around the men and could hear one of them saying he was going to get a knife.

Soon a man caught up to the victim on the B-Line and began threatening him with the knife while swinging it and trying to cut him. The man was able to avoid being cut or stabbed by moving away.

The man gave a detailed description of the knife to police, who soon found the suspect, and told him to get on his knees to be handcuffed. The man refused the police officers’ order and was taken to the ground. The man then threatened the police as he continued to fight officers on the ground but was taken into custody.

Police found a knife discarded under a vehicle.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Bloomington man, is being charged with resisting law enforcement, an A misdemeanor and intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.
