A Cessna airplane made an emergency landing after a mechanical failure Monday afternoon, according to Monroe County Airport Director of Aviation Carlos Laverty.
Laverty said the plane’s pilot was flying from Evansville to South Bend when he experienced an issue with the airplane and made the emergency landing. Scanner traffic indicated there had been a plane crash, but there wasn’t. Laverty said emergency responders are alerted when a plane needs to make an emergency landing. However, the plane landed safely.
Workers at the airport could be seen towing a white Cessna, with the tail number, N97903, from a runway. The Cessna is a fixed wing single-engine aircraft manufactured in 1979 and owned by Aerial Imaging Inc., of South Bend, Ind.
Laverty said a full report on the incident will be made with the FAA.
