Unhoused man’s body found on Thanksgiving in Bloomington

The body of a man police believe was unhoused was found in the 2600 block of S. Walnut on Thanksgiving, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

A friend of the man posted about the death on Facebook Thursday, and the Bloomingtonian reached out to the police to confirm details of the death Friday. Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo said police don’t believe the death is suspicious.

However, an autopsy was being scheduled by the Monroe County Coroner as part of the death investigation. The man’s body was found in the woods near a camp where unhoused members of the community are currently living.

This year Bloomington won’t have a winter shelter for unhoused members of the community.
