A 20-year-old woman, who crashed into a parked car is being charged with an OWI, according to Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo.
Police were dispatched to the front of the Switchyard Brewing Co., in the 400 block of N. Walnut, after a woman in a grey 2008 Mercedes GL5 collided with a parked 2008 BMW.
Police found the woman still seated in the Mercedes and noted her speech was slurred, and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot. An officer found a cup in the center console of the vehicle they believe contained a liquid alcohol beverage, according to Pedigo.
The woman told police another vehicle swerved into her lane causing her to crash into the parked BMW, but police viewing surveillance footage did not see a vehicle swerve into the woman’s lane. There were approximately 9 people sitting on the front patio at the brewery when the woman crashed.
The woman was taken to a hospital then to the Monroe County Jail. She will face the charge of OWI operating while intoxicated endangering a person, which is an A level misdemeanor.
The woman refused to provide consent for a blood draw at the hospital, so one was obtained after a search warrant. Pedigo said the blood sample will be sent to the department of toxicology, and in a few weeks when police have the results, the woman could face additional charges. However, the police already had probable cause to arrest the woman for an OWI based on evidence at the scene.
