Bloomington Uber driver threatened after telling passengers to wear masks

An Uber driver called the police Wednesday after receiving threats from an angry passenger asked to wear a mask due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The Uber driver picked up an intoxicated man and woman at the McDonald’s restaurant in the 2800 block of E. 3rd Street around 7:30 p.m. When the driver asked them to put on masks the male passenger became upset but went back into the restaurant to get a mask. The male passenger continued to yell at the driver until the driver canceled the trip and told the passengers to exit the vehicle. The intoxicated male passenger then made threats of physical harm prompting the driver to call the police.

Police went to the address given as a destination by the passengers but were unable to find them.
