Police arrest armed man at Fountain Square Mall after a report he’d been touching himself

Police were dispatched to the Fountain Square Mall in the 100 block of W. Kirkwood Wednesday after a report a man was touching himself, said Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

Police later found a 9mm handgun in the man’s backpack.

When officers arrived they found the man matching the description with his hands down his pants touching his groin area, said Pedigo. Police began talking to the man and asked him about a syringe reported to have fallen out of his pocket. The man then took out a syringe and threw it on the ground. So, police placed the man in cuffs, and began to search through his two backpacks.

Police found at least one clear plastic bag with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth and also a 9mm handgun. The police report didn’t specify if the gun, which was not reported stolen, was loaded.

The 36-year-old man was taken to jail on the charges of carrying a handgun without a license, a level A misdemeanor; possession of methamphetamine, level 6 felony; and possession of a hypodermic needle, a level 6 felony.
