Police are looking for a driver who fled in a vehicle from police during a traffic stop on the evening of Thursday, December 30, 2021, according to Bloomington Police Department Lt. Mick Williams.
A BPD officer couldn’t see the Silver Toyota Highlander’s plate, which was later found to be a paper plate behind a tinted window. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop at the intersection of W. 11thStreet and N. Monroe Street around 6 p.m.
However, the driver fled East on 11th winding through the streets of the west side of Bloomington, and eventually west on Fountain Drive, before turning westbound onto the train tracks near JB Salvage.
Officers attempted to continue the pursuit but were unable to do so. The driver continued westbound driving along the train tracks. Officers later located the Toyota about 250 yards west of the intersection of Lemon Lane and Gray Street, but it was unoccupied. The vehicle became stuck after leaving the train tracks.
The driver has not been located, and police do not know the driver’s identity, according to Williams.
The area where the vehicle became stuck is near the site of a Superfund site where PCBs from the Westinghouse factory were dumped in a landfill.
