Police arrested two men after a pursuit Saturday night, according to Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo. Police began to pursue the vehicle after a report of shots fired.

Police were dispatched to an area on South Rogers Street after a report of shots fired from a dark sedan around 11:04 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022. An officer traveling northbound on Rogers spotted a Ford Fusion coming off Rockport while traveling over the speed limit.

The officer pulled behind the vehicle to make a traffic stop, and the driver slowed down, but then began accelerating while traveling northbound on Morton. At one point the pursuit went eastbound on Second Street past Henderson. As the vehicle continued through Bloomington, the car eventually turned northbound onto North Walnut from 10th Street.

Finally, past the Ind. 46/46 bypass on North Walnut the car ran off the road and collided with a bush at the corner of East Glendora Drive and N. Walnut, where police then made a felony traffic stop. The driver and the passenger were then taken into custody.

An officer then observed a live 9mm round laying on the passenger seat of the car, and located several bags with marijuana in them, according to Pedigo.

Later officers found a 9mm Glock 43 handgun in the 500 block of East 2nd Street. The gun had scrapes consistent with being thrown from a vehicle, said Pedigo.

The 20-year-old driver, who is transient, is facing the charges of resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony; felon in possession of a firearm, level 5 felony; possession of marijuana, B misdemeanor; and driving without a license, C misdemeanor.

The passenger is a 23-year-old man from Gary, Indiana, who is facing the following charges: possession of marijuana, a B misdemeanor; and gun possession by a serious violent felon, a level 4 felony.
