A person is believed to have broken into a Bloomington church, and slept on a pew last week, according to Bloomington Police Capt. Ryan Pedigo.
Pedigo told The Bloomingtonian police were contacted around 2:44 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2022, after it was discovered that a rock was thrown through a glass door at the Church of Christ in the 800 block of West Second Street. A person who contacted the police discovered a large hole in the front door, and a rock in the breezeway about an hour before contacting the police.
They told police they believed a person had then reached through the door and unlocked it. And then slept inside the church on a pew. Nothing inside the church was missing, and the door had been locked when the person left.
They didn’t know when the glass had been broken since the church had been left locked last Wednesday. They also didn’t specify to the police why they believed someone slept in the church.
Police don’t have any suspects for the break-in.
Temperatures late last week dipped into the low teens, and temperatures this week are expected to fall to around zero on Tuesday.
