The following press release was sent to the Bloomingtonian by the Graduate and Professional Student Government at IU Wednesday:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) General Assembly convened on Wednesday, April 27th at 6 PM for an emergency meeting in response to communications from the Office of the Provost. Sam Smucker and Cole Nelson presented a Resolution of No Confidence in the Leadership of Provost Rahul Shrivastav. The resolution passed 55 For, 2 Against, 4 Abstain.

The passed resolution states the following conclusions:

  1. The GPSG expresses a Vote of No Confidence in the leadership of Provost Rahul Shrivastav.
  • The GPSG withdraws all its GPSG representatives from all committees of shared governance at Indiana University until the IU Administration engages in a meaningful dialogue with the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition.
  • We encourage graduate students whom the administration has appointed without consultation of GPSG—the elected representative body of graduate students on campus—to withdraw from their participation in all shared governance committees until the IU Administration engages in a meaningful dialogue with the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition.

Following the meeting, GPSG President Valentina Luketa communicated the results of the vote in a letter to constituents.

The GPSG is the official university-sponsored student government for all graduate and professional students across all Indiana University-Bloomington schools and departments. GPSG serves over 10,000 graduate and professional students at IU-Bloomington by providing advocacy, academic support, community building, and access to resources.
