
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting near the Bloomington Rail Trail Sunday afternoon, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Troy Thomas. One person was injured.
Around 3:50 p.m. Sunday the MCSO responded to reports that a male was shot around West Country Club Road trailhead, and the Bloomington Rail Trail, according to Thomas.
“Initial reports indicated one gunshot was heard, followed by a male screaming he had been robbed and shot. Responding deputies located the male shooting victim inside a tent approximately 50 feet east of the unpaved, gravel trail to the east of the paved Rail Trail,” said Thomas.
Deputies Windsor and Elliott applied tourniquets to the gunshot victim’s wound to stop the bleeding before he was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington.
The Bloomington Police Department assisted MCSO in making a perimeter however no suspect(s) matching the description were located.
Investigators collected evidence near a group of tents in the woods surrounded by police cordon tape.
“This is believed to be an isolated/targeted incident and there is no danger to the public,” said Thomas.
