Bloomington Police Investigate Shooting

On July 11 th at approximately 1:17 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of S Walnut
Street in reference to a shooting. A caller reported that they had heard a single gunshot
and then heard a man yelling for help. Upon the arrival of officers, a 42 year-old man was
located in the street with a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers administered care to the
man until the arrival of an ambulance. The man was then transported to IU Health
Bloomington Hospital for treatment of his injury.
Officers spoke to several individuals who reported hearing a single gunshot, then heard
tires screeching as a vehicle sped from the area. Prior to the victim being flown to
Indianapolis, he advised investigators that a vehicle had pulled up next to him as he was
walking and occupants of the vehicle began arguing with him. He stated that two
occupants of the vehicle brandished handguns and one of them fired at him once, striking
him in the chest. The vehicle then sped off from the area northbound on Walnut Street
and the victim fell to the ground. The victim then attempted to crawl out of the street and
began yelling for help.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Detective
Blake McCamey at 812-339-4477. No further information is available for release at this
time.
