Suspect arrested after dumpster fire early Monday in Bloomington, Indiana

An unhoused man was arrested early Monday morning for suspected arson after a dumpster fire, according to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo. The man was identified by a witness.

Early Monday morning a member of the Bloomington Police Department was responding to a dumpster fire in the 500 block of South Grant when a witness came forward to tell them about another fire. The witness told the officer they saw a man reach into a dumpster in the 300 block of East University, and then it began to smoke. The dumpster was fully engulfed with flames.

The witness gave police a description of a suspect who was soon located near 1st Street, and Lincoln and matched the description. The suspect will be charged with arson, which is a level 6 felony.

Pedigo said the police several other fires overnight are still under investigation. The suspect was only charged for the one fire on East University.
