Gallery: United Farm Workers march to California capitol for unionization

Editor’s note: John Tipton, who worked previously at the Porterville Recorder, where the Bloomingtonian’s Jeremy Hogan started as a freelance visual journalist in 1988 offered these images to Bloomingtonian readers last weekend.

Members of the United Farm Workers, a labor union associated with Delores Huerta and the late civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, were marching through Madera, California, in California’s Central Valley on the way to Sacramento, California, last Saturday.

California’s Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the area, and billions in food products are grown there and exported across the United States, and the world.

More about the labor union’s history can be found on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Farm_Workers
