MCSO investigating after Indiana University student dies Wednesday

A twenty-one-year-old Indiana University Student, Avery R. McMillan, was found unresponsive Wednesday morning, and did not survive, according to a press release from Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

August 18, 2022

An autopsy is schedule this afternoon, following the death of a twenty-year-old Indiana University student who was discovered unresponsive yesterday morning.

At 9:45AM yesterday, Deputies responded to a home in the 4100 block of Arlington road to find Avery R. McMillan unconscious and unresponsive to attempts by deputies to arouse her. Deputies administered three doses of Narcan, but she did not revive.

Ms. McMillan is an Indiana University student from Valparaiso. She was a member of a sorority there; but lived in an apartment in Bloomington.  Her father has been informed of her passing.  Her sorority has been notified. 

The 911 call came from the resident, a thirty three-old man, who claimed he met Ms. McMillan last night in the vicinity of the Indiana University Campus.  In time they ended up at his home on Arlington road. This morning he found her in the condition that prompted a call to 911.   This man has been cooperating with investigating detectives.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has remained in communication and worked with Indiana University Police.

This investigation is continuing today. No further information on this investigation will be forthcoming today.
