


A 37-year-old Newcastle man was arrested Tuesday after stealing a muffin, battering a woman, and smashing the windows of two vehicles, according to the Bloomington Police Department.
Tuesday around 4:40 p.m. police were dispatched to the Courtyard by Marriott located at 310 South College Avenue. The man stole a muffin inside the hotel, and then turned over a service cart. A hotel employee followed the man, who then smashed the driver’s side window of a Blue Kia Forte with a rock. The man also smashed the front window of a gray 2018 Chevy Equinox.
He approached a female in the parking lot of the hotel, and demanded money, but she refused. So, then he grabbed the woman by the hair.
The 59-yearold woman he battered, and the hotel employee followed him as police arrived, and then police took the man matching their description into custody at the B-Line trail, and West Second Street across from Seminary Kroger.
Police found crumbles of the stolen muffin next to the blue Kia Forte with the smashed window.
The suspect is being charged with criminal mischief (loss at least $750 but less than $50,000), which is a class B misdemeanor, battery, a class A misdemeanor; and battery, a class A misdemeanor.
