Protester arrested Saturday while counter-protesting anti-Kinsey Institute demonstrators at Indiana University

Update: The Monroe County Correctional Center arrest summary shows that a 36-year-old person was arrested for Public Intoxication Saturday at Lindley Hall.

Earlier report:

A group of about 50 protesters, and bikers volunteering as their security detail gathered outside Lindley Hall to demonstrate against the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, at Indiana University, Saturday, August 27, 2022, in Bloomington, Indiana.

The protest began with a prayer at 2 p.m. and then the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of the Scallywags III-percenter biker group, who wore three-piece 1-percenter style biker patches, were posted around the protesters as security. The Scallywags were active in 2020 counter-protesting at Black Lives Matter demonstrations around Southern Indiana, including in Bloomington, Bedford, and Martinsville.

Some of the protesters raised their hands in the air as they sang religious songs. American flags were planted in the ground near the steps where speakers stood one by one to speak to the crowd using a portable PA system.

A woman speaking called Alfred Kinsey a sexual pervert and expressed her anger saying that Indiana University funds the institute, and then encouraged her listeners to work to get it defunded during the 2023 Indiana legislature.

Janet Douglas spoke next and said the Kinsey Institute is “ground zero” for what she described as “sexual perversion that has swept everywhere.”

“It’s going to continue unless you and I stand up and fight against this entity. I will just say it because I have realized it’s a demonic structure that has to come down. And I don’t know about you, where are you on with your faith and what you think but demons are real, and they are doing everything they can do through Kinsey Institute, and through our government,” said Douglas.

But then a heckler interrupted while carrying an umbrella with the words reading, “No Space 4 Hate.” He was quickly surrounded by bikers, and one flipped him off to his face. The heckler said he had a right to stand anywhere he wanted and soon walked up on the steps.

A biker took away his umbrella, while members of the Indiana University police quickly arrested the counter-protester. The biker then carried the broken umbrella while walking toward the back of the crowd.

Next, a pastor named Matt Roller blamed late Playboy Magazine publisher Hugh Hefner for spreading sexual perversion. Roller blamed pornography for the high rate of divorce in the United States. Another pastor Michael Peterson spoke next and talked about pornography addiction.

As speakers kept speaking, a group of counter-protesters loudly argued with one of the anti-Kinsey crowd. Another counter-protester dressed in a red t-shirt faced off with a biker near the stage.

Meanwhile, a speaker railed against the govt, and the Rockefeller family, and accused the late Hugh Hefner of being their pamphleteer.

Later a senior field coordinator for the John Birch Society Jon Schock spoke, “What we have going on in our schools through SIECUS the Sexuality Information Education Commission of the United States is they are grooming young children right inside of the schools, paid for by taxpayer dollars from the Department of Education from the Indiana Department of Education from Eli Lilly from other organizations such as that they are training these young people to be perverted for life. It is happening in our schools.”

Then protesters participated “prayer walk” going once around the Kinsey Institute. One of the bikers could be heard saying, “All Lives Matter.” A man covered his face with a soda drink cup so he couldn’t be photographed.

After the march, a counter-protester stood in the back with a sign reading, “Fascists Go Home!” and a biker began to respectfully debate with him. A photographer began to photograph the biker’s patches up close, and another biker walked up behind they/he and got in they/he face startling they/he. But then one of the other security volunteers quickly intervened and apologized to the woman.

The crowd dispersed.
