Bloomington Community Advisory on Public Safety Commission Recommends Actions to Protect Reproductive Rights
BLOOMINGTON, IN—In the wake of the overturn of Roe v. Wade and the concerning actions by the Indiana General Assembly and Governor Holcomb in adopting Senate Bill 1, the Bloomington Community Advisory on Public Safety Commission has recently made recommendations to Mayor Hamilton and the Bloomington Common Council on actions to help protect reproductive rights for city residents.
The Commission shared a resolution containing its recommendations with city elected officials on August 26th, 2022, which include support for medical providers and legal aid providers involved in reproductive healthcare. The resolution calls on city officials to adopt policies and actions as soon as possible to help protect access to care and to mitigate the harm caused by SB1. The Commission recognizes that people have a basic human right to medical treatment, up to and including abortion, and believes its recommendations will help protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of city residents.
