Avon man arrested early Sunday after firing shots from handgun in downtown Bloomington

Police arrested a 20-year-old Avon man for criminal recklessness after a handgun was fired early Sunday morning in Bloomington, Indiana, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

Police were alerted to 6 to 8 gunshots being fired around 2:04 a.m. in the 400 block of East 9th Street. Witnesses described two shirtless white males in a red Camaro as being possible suspects.

A police officer soon observed a red Camaro matching the description, and observed a white male closing the trunk and getting into the vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by two 20-year-old identical twins.

The officer was notified by the driver that an AR style rifle was in the back seat of the Camaro. Police were given consent the search the vehicle, and found a handgun under the passenger seat, which had been fired.

The passenger was arrested for level 6 criminal recklessness for firing the firearm. The driver is also facing a B misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana.
