A 27-year-old woman was arrested after stealing a bag of chips and candy at the Circle K gas station in the 1100 block of South Walnut Street Monday after a witness saw them taking the items, according to the Bloomington Police Department. The items were worth about 5 dollars.
Police saw the woman running west on Grimes, and took her into custody. When police asked the clerk at the convenience store if they had called 911, the clerk denied doing so. Police then reached out the caller who then returned to the business.
The caller told police they witnessed, through the outside window of the Circle K, a woman crouched near the freezer taking a bag of chips and putting them into a bag, and then taking a package of “Reese’s” candy, and walking out of the store without paying. So, they called 911.
The suspect said they’d already thrown the items away while being chased, but that they’d been at the gas station.
The suspect, whose address is listed by the police as “transient” was taken into custody, and will face the charges of resisting law enforcement, and will face other charges due to having a prior arrest warrant unrelated to the alleged theft.
