Identity of man killed Tuesday in collision on I-69 released by Monroe County Coroner

“The individual that died in the motor vehicle accident Tuesday morning on I69 has been identified as Joseph Crist, 32 of Bloomington. Family has been notified,” said Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup.

The driver of a passenger vehicle died after a collision with a semi-tractor trailer Tuesday morning on I-69 South of Bloomington, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The MCSO sent the following information to the media:

“On 10/18/2022 @ 0606 hours, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident PI on I69 Sb @ mile marker 111 between a semi-tractor trailer and another vehicle. Upon arrival it was determined the driver of the passenger vehicle had died on scene as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. The other vehicle was a semi-tractor trailer hauling a liquid asphalt.

A witness was driving SB on 69 and stated he had passed the semi and was driving in the fast lane alongside of the passenger car. The witness stated 3 deer jumped into the roadway and caused the victim’s vehicle to crash. The witness then observed the victim vehicle the spinning in the roadway.

The semi driver stated he came up on the vehicle sideways in the roadway with no lights. He stated he did not have time to stop and struck the vehicle.

ISP arrived on scene to do the reconstruction, and MCSO will be handling the crash report.  

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office is on scene and will be making next of kin notification.”
