A Veterans Day ceremony is being planned for Friday at the American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18 at 10:30 a.m. Then free ham and beans; and cornbread will be served from 12-2 p.m.
Earlier in the morning, Vietnam Veteran Phil Zook will deliver Veterans Day remarks at a 7:30 a.m. flag raising ceremony at the flagpole in front of Franklin Hall at Indiana University.
A news release from IU says the following:
“At sunrise, the IU Army and Air Force ROTC color guard will raise the US flag to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military. Following the flag ceremony, Phillip Zook, a native Hoosier and a U. S. Army combat veteran of the Vietnam War will deliver Veterans Day remarks.” |

About the Speaker |
Phillip Zook was decorated for courage and heroism with the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and twice decorated with the Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War. He graduated with a B.S. in 1969 from Indiana University and earned his officer commission through IU’s Army ROTC. After his service, he returned to the Bloomington campus and earned an M.S. in Secondary Education and an M.S. in Counseling and Guidance. |
