
A 66-year-old Bloomington man died early Friday morning from injuries sustained in a fire at Evergreen Village assisted-living complex.
According to Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup, “Alongside with the assistance of the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s office, we are actively investigating the death of Rickey Harper, 66 of Bloomington, IN who died as result of injuries sustained in a fire at Evergreen Village early this morning. Official cause and manner of death are still pending autopsy results at this time. His autopsy has been scheduled for 9am Saturday 11/12/22 in Terre Haute, IN.”
According to the Bloomington Police Department when officers arrived a room filled with heavy smoke on the second floor of the building in the 3600 block of South Heirloom Drive, in Bloomington just after 12 a.m.
Police evacuated residents to the front of the building but a man was located in room, and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1:15 a.m.
The Bloomingtonian had reached out to the Bloomington Fire Department Friday morning for more information about the fire, but had not received a response by Friday evening. Friday was Veterans Day, and many local government offices were closed.
