Firefighters fight barn fire Tuesday on West Indiana State Road 45

The Monroe Fire Protection District was assisted Tuesday by Center-Jackson Fire Territory, Beech Creek Township Fire Department, and Greene County while fighting a barn fire in the 9600 block of West Indiana State Road 45, according to a Facebook post by the MFD.

Here is the text of the release:

MFD units responded to the 9600 block of W State Rd 45 this afternoon for a structure fire.

Units arrived to find a partially collapsed barn with heavy fire and smoke coming from it.

The location of the fire was down a long drive making access for fire trucks difficult and slowed water supply resources.

The land was being cleared of trees and brush and had large piles burning to get rid of the debris. Hot embers from the brush piles blew onto the barn catching it on fire. The wind also blew embers from the barn into a wooded area creating approximately a 5 acre brush fire for firefighters to deal with as well. The barn was full of landscaping cloth material.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours working to contain the brush fire, extinguishing the barn, and soaking down hot spots.

MFD was assisted on scene by Center-Jackson Fire Territory and Beech Creek Township Fire Department from Greene County, IU Health Lifeline Ambulance and Monroe County Sheriff Office.

Shortly after firefighters arrived at this fire the remaining MFD stations were dispatched to Weimer Rd and Garrison Chapel Rd for possible brush fires. Thankfully those two fires were small and did not require extensive manpower and equipment. MFD was assisted by Ellettsville Fire Department on the Garrison Chapel Rd call.
