PRESS RELEASE: MONROE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO REQUEST
RECOUNT IN INDIANA’S HOUSE DISTRICT 62 RACE
The Monroe County Democratic Party will file a recount petition of the Indiana House District
62 race between Democrat Penny Githens and Republican Dave Hall. Chair David G. Henry will
file the recount paperwork the morning of November 28th at the Indiana Election Division
before the Indiana Recount Commission in Indianapolis.
After provisional votes were tabulated, Mr. Hall leads by a mere margin of 40 votes across 43
precincts in three counties, a lead of under 1% in a close election.
“After a hard fought election, it is imperative that the voters know that every last lawful vote has
been accounted for in the Indiana 62nd race,” said Chair David G. Henry. “In such extremely
close races, a recount is simply about exercising our candidate’s rights under the law, and
crossing every t, and dotting every i.”
“While we have full faith in our local Clerk’s office, this recount petition asks for a recount in all
precincts in the Indiana 62nd District including Brown and Jackson Counties, and a manual
recount in Monroe and Brown Counties. This is because counties like Monroe and Brown rely
upon paper ballots, where honest human error in casting ballots would be understandably
possible.”
Every vote matters, and every intention should be fully understood in a recount. That is what
they are for. While gaining an additional seat will not break the Republican supermajority we
have in Indiana, ensuring every lawful vote and intent was counted for this open seat is good
Democracy. This petition is just the lawful and rightful next step to assure that happens for every
voter.
