The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of a firearm after a fight involving 4-5 people Monday night at the Bloomington Walmart in Bloomington, Indiana. The man, who resisted arrest, after exiting the store, dropped an ammo magazine from his clothing as he was being taken into custody.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a fight in progress that occurred at 3585 W State Road 45, the business of Wal-Mart. On January 16th at approximately 7:21 p.m., deputies responded to the area in reference to a report of 4-5 people fighting and someone bleeding. Upon arrival, deputies located Matthew Wall, a 29-year-old male, exiting the store front, matching the physical description, and bleeding from the face. Deputies ordered him to stop and place his hands on a nearby vehicle. Initially gaining compliance, once attempting to place handcuffs on Mr. Wall, he attempted to flee on foot. Deputies pursued and were able to successfully take Mr. Walls into custody after Mr. Wall physically resisted arrest. While attempting to arrest Mr. Wall, deputies observed a magazine, belonging to a handgun fall from Mr. Wall’s clothing. Later it was determined that Mr. Wall, a serious violent felon, was in possession of a 9mm handgun, two magazines, and 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Mr. Wall was transported to an area hospital for treatment to his injuries he obtained prior to our interaction. Deputies involved in taking Mr. Wall into custody received minor injuries to their hands from grappling on the asphalt.
It was reported by several witnesses and CCTV that Mr. Wall and another unknown male, accompanied by two small children, engaged in a physical altercation inside the business. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from Bloomington City Police Department, attempted to locate the second person involved, however, he left prior to our arrival.
Matthew Wall was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Center and remanded on the following charges:
35-47-4-5 Possession of firearm by serious violent felon as a Level 4 felony
35-44.1-3-1 Resisting law enforcement as a Level 6 felony
35-42-2-2 Criminal recklessness as a Level 6 felony
35-42-2-1 Battery as a Class B misdemeanor
